The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) 2011 “Internet Watch List” has leaked onto the web. Pretty ironic when you think about it. According to the report, sine at least June 2010, the Department of Homeland Security has been regularly monitoring social media. The purpose of the monitoring is to “collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture.” Sites included on the list include MySpace, YouTube, Huffington Post, and Hulu. MySpace? Really?
The report also states that the DHS uses the monitoring to gauge the government’s responses to such events as the 2010 earthquake and aftermath in Haiti and security and border control related to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Sadly, One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment did not make the list. I for one am outraged. Whatever, DHS. We don’t want to be in your little clique anyway.
