Look at the colors on Ajax! All of our little babies are grown up and this weekend we’re letting them go. It’ll be tough, but we’re releasing them to a tree in our front yard. Research tells us that fostered squirrels tend to shack up in whatever tree you release them in, so we’re really hoping they stay close to home. I’m building a decent sized house for them too, which I’m sure they’ll appreciate during one of these FL storms.

They started hiding the nuts and other snacks we give them in their cage. It’s wicked cute. At first we thought they were eating too fast, but then we saw Max stashing his pine nuts under inside their hammock. How squirrel-like of them! All of the extra snacks we give them have beefed them up and given them a good amount of fat for the upcoming winter. Not that it gets super cold in central FL, but it’ll still help.

Just check out the gut on Swan:

It’s sure to be bittersweet to see all three of them take off up the tree at the same time, but it’s time. We’re a couple of proud parents and if it’s possible to still baby fostered squirrels once they’re in the wild, we’ll figure it out.
