When not to cut corners- installation. It’s simple and easy that you need to get a skilled COMMERCIAL electrician. Now why would you want a COMMERCIAL ELECTRICIAN? There are many reasons but I can summarize it rather quickly and easily. Not every electrician is skilled in 3 phase electric (found in commercial settings) and by hooking up single phase rather than three phase or vice versa, often motors or boards can be blown. This can be costly with boards ranging $300-1200 cost plus installation, versus the cost of a skilled electrician. Also, if you need additional amperage pulled from your board or the appropriate plugs put on equipment, a skilled COMMERCIAL electrician is the person to do this for you. What happens if you don’t have your equipment installed by a skilled technician? Well, often it voids warrantee beyond creating a huge hassle.
A little story from a few weeks ago, customer purchased a large piece of equipment from us. Their electrician was skilled (so he said) and when our technical staff got on the phone and asked if he had tested XYZ with the voltmeter… well you can guess he didn’t test the voltage because he 1) didn’t know what a voltmeter was and 2) didn’t test it which resulted in boards being blown and equipment fryer. It was a costly mistake that inexperience ended up costing the customer. Now, we helped the client out and rebuilt the board for free as a courtesy (did I tell you our technical team rocks?) but it still created down time and hassle the business owner didn’t need while they were trying to open.
In the past we’ve gone out and found handymen hooking up equipment that is single phase to three phase and I (as a girl and wearing a dress that day) had to explain to the handyman what the difference between single and three phase panels is and also why the wrong electric had damaged the unit. But what a bargain he was at $20 an hour…
Sometimes, (ice machines are also true here… stick with a good one) you just shouldn’t cut corners on the skilled labor.
