One Fat Frog loves strange culinary inventions and this next piece of news definitely qualifies. Scientists at the University of Tokyo are working on a pair of glasses that they say can help you lose weight. You ever hear the saying that “my eyes were too big for my stomach.” Well, these researchers want to make sure your eyes are always too big for your stomach, which will reduce the amount that you eat.

Popular wisdom says that people will eat whatever is on their plate, so the more you give them, the more they eat. These researchers, however, are challenging that notion. The scientists conducted a study in which augmented reality glasses were used to make the meals served to diners look 1.5 times larger. As a result, those diners ate 10% less. It seems if you think there’s too much food to begin with, you don’t feel bad about not eating everything on your plate.

So what does that mean for the future of the restaurant industry? Will restaurants hand out augmented reality glasses to their customers so they can give them smaller portions but make it seem like they’re giving more food? Will this feature be worked into the Google glasses? Can they also make augmented reality glasses that mirror the effects of beer goggles so the women I date seem more attractive?

All of these questions and more will be answered in the future. For now, One Fat Frog is happy to get a plate heaping full of way too much food and then force all of that food down our throats. I mean, we’re not skinny frogs, are we?
