Over the weekend, after a long week at One Fat Frog, I was looking around on Youtube and discovered that there is a method of making a grilled cheese sandwich without a stove. It involves the sandwich, some aluminum foil, and an iron (you college students should check it out). This got me thinking…what other crazy ways are there to cook a meal? Well, I came across this blog that listed some, so here we go:

-Cooking with your car: we’re not talking about food trucks here (although they are awesome). We’re talking about literally cooking meals by wrapping them in aluminum foil and placing them strategically on or near your car’s engine. It’s not an exact science, but how sweet is it when you get it right?

-Cooking in the dishwasher: the first time I heard of this one, it was on an episode of “Home Improvement” (if you haven’t seen this classic 90’s sitcom, go look it up). Basically, you take your meal (according to the episode, a type of fish), wrap it in foil, and place it in the dishwasher using a drying cycle, and it can be perfectly poached. It’s probably not recommended, but possible.

-Quick Ice Cream: if you love the delectable dessert, you need not wait with a homemade ice cream machine that you can pick up at the local department store. All you need is your favorite ice cream mix, a steel bowl, some strong gloves, and some liquid nitrogen. I know, I know: the stuff that was nearly the end for the famous T-1000 in “Terminator 2” is not the easiest stuff to come by, but if you can get it, you’re talking dessert in five minutes, easy.

-Cooking with Lava: yeah, you read that right: lava. As in the stuff that comes out of a volcano. There are limited places you can do this, but there’s a guy who mastered it in Hawaii…a place known to have one or two of them. Can you imagine though? Cooking with lava? I don’t often cook, and I’ve never been anywhere closer to a volcano than watching footage on TV, but I’d try it once if ever given the chance.

As the old saying goes, “there are lots of ways to skin a cat.” Or is it there’s only one way? Don’t remember, not the point…cooking isn’t just done on stoves and in ovens, but if you don’t have access to things like liquid nitrogen or lava, give us a call and we’ll hook you up with some sweet used equipment for your restaurant, plus financing options, a 30 day parts and labor warranty, and freebies like delivery to most of Florida, gas conversion, custom cutting boards for your prep tables, and custom paint jobs on whatever you want painted. We’re here to help.
