You may have heard of all these fancy titles and accolades that restaurants can get. But they all bow in shame to the famous Michelin Star. And since One Fat Frog loves to tell you all about a whole of restaurant-related stuff, we want to tell you about the well-known Michelin Guide.

The Michelin Guide is an annual guide book that is released to show the best restaurants and hotels in a given area. The original guide, which started back in 1900 in France, was for motorists and included maps and mechanic locations. In 1926, the guide released its first honor for a restaurant. By 1931, the Michelin Guide had upped their restaurant honors to three stars. Since then, the guide has also spread to other countries like Britain and Italy, and the first Michelin Guide for the USA was published in 2005.

So, how does a restaurant get in the Michelin Guide and receive a coveted star? Well, you have to get the attention of the Michelin Guide so they can send an inspector your way. Inspectors remain anonymous (in fact, top executives rarely, if ever, meet inspectors) and the company pays the check. Of course, the restaurant doesn’t know when these inspectors arrive and for good reason. They don’t want you to be all extra special for just them. There are three star ratings: one star is for “a very good restaurant in its category”; two means your restaurant is “worth a detour”; and three means the cooking is “exceptional” and “worth a special journey.” They also offer a Rising Star, which is for restaurants that could end up getting a star or getting another star.

Getting in the Michelin Guide is a huge honor for any restaurant, and the Guide has spread to include more and more areas. And if you believe your restaurant and cooking is just that good, then you might get your name in there. And seriously, how sweet would that be. But as your building up your reputation, give us a call and get the used equipment you need for your restaurant.
