The Swamp started in 1994, but it was built on the spot where an old UF professor’s house was. The house was built in 1915, but then a fire burned it down to nearly nothing in 1993. The new owner came in, rebuilt the building, and opened the Swamp.
The Swamp is located right across the street from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, where the Gators football team has built up a nice little empire (which I want to see my Seminoles continue to break down). And many, many UF students, alumni, professors, and more have spent time hanging out at the Swamp for a game or a bite to eat. In fact, a couple of years ago, even Playboy (yes, that Playboy) named them the number one college bar in the country.
