Tampa, FL has a rich history. The name of the city, taken from the Native American tribe Calusa, means “sticks of fire.” During the period following the Civil War, known as “Reconstruction,” Tampa struggled.

Except for two cannons displayed on the nearby University of Tampa campus, all traces of the fort are gone.
