The January movie doldrums has a bright light this weekend; a spotlight in the murkiness. I speak of Haywire, Steven Soderbergh’s action bonanza starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, and female MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano.
The trailer has had me excited for months now and the fact that Soderbergh is helming an action flick should have the everyone in the world excited. Last year, Soderbergh’s Contagion was easily the scariest movie of the year and he’s been delivering his unique visions for years. It’s great that this is coming out in January when it could easily fit in with the other summer action bonanzas. Besides the crafty action, there’s also plenty of sex appeal for guys and gals.
There’s really nothing else coming out this weekend, so go see Haywire. Or else.
