Happy Friday the 13th, everyone! I hope you haven’t experienced any bad luck today. I just noticed I’m wearing two different socks, but I’ll chock that up to coincidence, not bad luck. I thought now’s a good a time as any to drop a little history knowledge on you folks about this superstitious holiday. And by “drop a little knowledge” I mean “cut and past from Wikipedia.”
Friday has been considered an unlucky day at least since the 14th century’s The Canterbury Tales, and many other professions have regarded Friday as an unlucky day to undertake journeys or begin new projects. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s.It has also been suggested that Friday has been considered an unlucky day because, according to Christian scripture and tradition, Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
Personally, I correlate the holiday with the Friday the 13th film series. The first one was filmed near my house in New Jersey! Tonight I plan on watching Part VII and drinking 13 beers or one gin and tonic. I haven’t decided yet.
